The winter season means many things to many people… Holidays, family, cozying up to the fire. Wool socks, sledding, and all things hygge. For our field staff however, winter is a time to keep busy: some switch gears to their other seasonal job (ski patrol, private guiding), some pursue further training or renew certifications, or for others it is time off to go on international adventures!
Over a dozen of our staff were in Ecuador in December for two weeks for training. These Instructors learned the finer points of crevasse rescue and glaciated travel. They put their skills to the test when they summitted Antisana, an 18,714′ volcanic peak.
Adam Pecan, an Instructor with the Rocky Mountain Program, and Carolyn Conant, a Logistics Coordinator with the Southwest Program, wrote in with their winter update as well: “Right now we are in Vietnam where Carolyn has been guiding, deep water soloing, and climbing some of the hardest lines on Cat Ba island. I just came over from three months of climbing in rural China and putting up new first ascents of multi pitch rock routes in some beautiful areas.”
